Recognition features are external characteristics of organisms that allow for them to be differentiated and classified. In this section the recognition features of plant and animals will be covered.
Almost all plants are in one of four phyla, which are discussed here and their recognition features are below.
Unlike plants, animal are divided into over 30 phyla. Example of six main phyla are shown here and their recognition features are covered in the chart below.
Vertebrates are animals with a backbone and are members of the chordata phylum. There are thousands of species, of vertebrates, but all belong to one of five major classes. Their basic recognition features are shown below:
